At our pain management practice in Mainz, we treat people with acute and chronic pain. Our focus is not solely on the individual symptom. The key question is which factors contribute to the symptoms and which of these can be effectively and quickly addressed.
Dr. Peter Leithoff, M.D., is a board-certified physician in general medicine and has been working exclusively in pain management for over 30 years.
Chronic pain is often caused by a combination of various factors. In addition to changes in the joints, muscles, and fascia, the nervous system, hormones, sleep, stress regulation, posture, leg alignment, and other physical factors can also play a role.
That is why treatment begins with a detailed medical history and physical examination. The goal is to identify possible causes and factors contributing to the pain and to develop a treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs.
At our practice, we treat patients with, among other conditions, back and neck pain, joint and muscle pain, headaches and migraines, neuralgia, temporomandibular joint disorders, as well as complex and chronic pain syndromes. We also treat patients with fibromyalgia and other conditions in which pain occurs alongside sleep disturbances, fatigue, or autonomic symptoms.
One of the practice's areas of focus is medical osteopathy. It allows us to examine functional disorders and possible connections between different parts of the body and to treat them in a targeted manner.
Another area of focus is neuro-acupuncture, developed by Dr. Leithoff. In this approach, the response to treatment with needles or an acupuncture laser is assessed immediately and used to further select the acupuncture points.
If there is reason to suspect that sleep disorders or hormonal imbalances are contributing to the pain, the relevant hormones are tested, and if any abnormalities are found, treatment with bioidentical hormones may be prescribed.
At our practice, we generally schedule 30 minutes for a regular appointment. This allows time for a consultation, examination, and treatment.
Our practice in Mainz treats patients with private insurance as well as those with public insurance who wish to pay out of pocket for their treatment.
By the way: Most public health insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for osteopathic services. We’ll send you the necessary paperwork along with your invoice.
